Brands Hatch 19th – 21st March

On this weekend Marcus, along with his Dad and Brother, made his way up to Kent to take part in what it seems like, a very eventful race.

With the weather being anything but warm and sunny, the CBR 600 made it through Friday’s scrutiny and was fit to race on Saturday. After a practice run on Saturday morning Marcus and the rest of the eager motorcyclists were ready to take on the two qualifying heats. Finishing in the top 18 of the heat puts you through to the “A-final”, finishing at an impressive 16th, Marcus went on to qualify.

A little later on in the day, wet and dull conditions still remaining, Marcus took on the A-final. Throughout the day, the CBR 600, had been suffering from a technical fault: the set of wet’s (tyres) were not adequate to deal with the amount of water on the circuit, with this persisting problem, Marcus finished around 30th with a time of just over one minute.

Luckily for Marcus, Sunday greeted them with much brighter and much better weather. With the tyres changed, the bike prepared and enthusiasm from the riders, everyone was ready to go. Unfortunately, drama hit right at the start of the qualifying session when the bike directly in front of Marcus didn’t start. With such a dangerous situation arising, Marcus has to compromise his start in order to avoid him. With the bike relying on the continuous running of the engine whilst in a stand still position to avoid the battery needing a re-charge, the CBR 600 began to overheat resulting in the engine having to be turned off; this led to the bike being unable to start up again. As a result, Marcus would have to start at the back of the grid in the B final.

After returning the bike to the garage, it was re-charged and ready to take on the next stage. The race got off to a brilliant start, with Marcus forcing his way to fourth place on the first corner. As the race developed, Marcus was sitting in 3rd place and the race was described to be a real battle. The race finished, and Marcus managed to secure his first top 3 finish of the season!

We would like to congratulate Marcus for his success and wish him the best of luck in his race this weekend at Snetterton.
